Darjeeling is the “Queen of Hill Stations “one of the most popular Hill station all across the globe. The name Darjeeling said to be derived from “Dorjee Ling” (Thunder bolt place). Darjeeling is famous throughout the world for the tea it grows and the great view of Kanchenjunga range of mountains that it offers. The Tea gardens of Darjeeling are world famous for producing fine blends of tea, prized all over the world for its exotic flavor and rich aroma.

Darjeeling is situated at an altitude of 2134m, this hill town, with its exquisite scenic beauty, attracts travelers of varied interest. Darjeeling is equally famous for its unique railway. A visit to the region is incomplete without a ride in the toy-train. The toy train is popularly known as Darjeeling Himalayan Railways or DHR. The toy train approximately takes 8 hrs to reach. The miniature train, given heritage status by UNESCO, covers the distance of 88 km between New Jalpaiguri station and Darjeeling. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR):DARJEELING HIMALAYAN RAILWAY

The toy train is popularly known as Darjeeling Himalayan Railways or DHR. Toy Train” travels from New Jalpaiguri through the plains up to Sukna and then clings uphill to reach the second highest steam locomotive Railway station in the world Ghoom (alt. 7,408 ft.)

Tiger Hill:TIGER HILL

It is situated at an elevation of nearly 8500 feet and at a height of 2590m. Tiger Hill is 11 km from the main town. Tiger Hill is known for the spectacular sunrise over the Himalaya. The first rays of the sun shoot ahead and shed light upon the twin peaks of Kanchenjunga painting it in a beautiful orange colour; this sight is a true evidence of mountain beauty.

The Padmaja Naidu Himalayan zoological park is about 2 km. from the town. This Himalayan Park is a residence of some of the most rarest & endangered animals in the world, i.e. Red Panda, Siberian Tiger, Tibetan Wolf and Snow Leopard etc. Himalayan Black Bear is also found here.

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) & Museum:MOUNTAIN INSTITUTE

Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is situated adjacent to the Zoological Park. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is the hub of all mountaineering activities in India. Himalayan Mountaineering Institute has a museum for visitors which are enriched by extensive collection of rare photographs, maps, mountaineering equipments and exclusive samples of flora & fauna of the Himalayas.

Lloyd Botanical Garden:BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Lloyd Botanical Garden, located below the bus stand, has large collection of rare Himalayan Plants, Flowers, Orchids and many more Flora species which belong to native Darjeeling Himalayan regions.

Ghoom Monastery:GHOOM MONASTERY

Ghoom Monastery or Yiga-Choling Monastery is the most famous monastery around. It is situated just opposite to the Batasia Loop. Here a very beautiful statue of the Maitrey Buddha is established. The Monastery has also preserved some of the rare handwritten Buddhist manuscripts.

On the way to Darjeeling from Siliguri by the famous Toy Train journey passes through the Batasia Loop. From the Batasia Loop one can get a panoramic view of Darjeeling town with the Kanchenjunga and other snowy mountains in the back – drop. A beautiful garden has been laid for the visitors to spend time in the area.

Rock Garden is the newly built tourist spots with the blend of human creation and nature’s beauty. Situated approximately 10 kilometres from Darjeeling is a drive to be remembered with great rise and fall of heights. This beautiful garden is a men made garden by cutting the hill with a natural stream cuts through it.
